While most of the primary and secondary literature about Montessori Pedagogy is easily accessible and the most important writings are reprinted regularly, many people do not know that there are numerous films which deal with Maria Montessori’s pedagogic conception and introduce her practical education and classes.
The Montessori film register is supposed to help gaining an overview of the range of films and selecting a specific one if needed.
Every film review contains a short summary, information about special accents of the film as well as further literature (only choices). In some cases the films are recommended, occasionally readers are discouraged from watching the film.
All 18 reviews contain the source when possible and were printed in the journal Montessori. All reviews are in German.
With regard to the television productions of WDR, SWF and BR (=German radio and TV stations) it is necessary to check the possibilities to borrow at the regional institutions, which lend out all kind of films. This also applies to the films which were produced by the FWU (=German Film Producer). In this case there is the possibility to address oneself directly to: Institut für Film und Bild in Wissenschaft und Unterricht (Institute for Films and Pictures in Science and Instruction), Bavaria-Film-Platz 3, 82031 Grünwald.
Some of the reviewed films are available at MEDIA-VERSAND, Werner Dönges, Bruehlstr.15, D-73479 Ellwangen-Rattstadt, e-mail: wdoenges@media-versand.de; Homepage: www.media-versand.de.
The Montessori Centre is grateful for any suggestions concerning films about the Montessori Pedagogy (including their sources and author) that are not listed above.
